Women’s Crestone Retreat 2012

The Mala of Re-Membrance:
11th Annual Women’s Yoga Re-Treat

August 14th – August 19th

Crestone Mountain Zen Center
Crestone, Colorado

Not Your Normal Yoga Retreat

In bodily knowing (i.e. women’s yoga) there is an infinitude of miracles. It is not random that our bodies, as women, are made in the shape of creation; always with the potential of giving birth, to ourselves renewed and to life itself. In these new, modern times, it’s time to Re-Member and re-put ourselves together from the place and perspective of our deepest heart rather than responding to the script of history and the social demands of our fathers and forefathers.

The Mala of Remembrance is a ceremony, a celebration, a friend, a pillar of support for the newest way of being we are called to in and by our lives as they are. Women’s Yoga, deeply done and participated in, is sheer magic and medicine for our world. Let us come together and truly Re-Treat, Re-Cognize, Re-Generate, Re-Birth, and Re-Joice ourselves in each other’s company as the new-ness and the timelessness of the dance we cannot help but be, for the sake of all we care about and the vast undefinable Love that we are.

This 6-day annual retreat will combine asana, movement, breathwork and a series of practices that communicate Sofia’s unique understanding of the yoga of feeling. Participants will learn to integrate breath, yoga posture, and heart feeling to strengthen the body, release constricting emotions, and ground the whole being in happiness.

What Others are Saying…

“This sacred retreat ignites the power of transformation. Sofia holds a container that is so strong during these retreats, I find myself mining depths of my being that are not possible under most circumstances. I have done this retreat seven times – and each time is exquisitely different. Through a cast of ritual, practice and presence, Sofia shines her particular genius for noticing the deepest of points of avoidance, resistance and/or emotional muck within her students. She literally lays a path for opening and growth, which it is up to us to explore. The experience of a retreat with Sofia at the Crestone Mountain Zen Center carries the potent of magic.”Nikki Dunas, Crestone, CO

“Being with Sofia and the work she entices out of our depths is such a nourishing experience, shared with the loving presence and process of all the women that come together in Crestone under the magical dome of poetic devotion to life.” Una Laffan, United Kingdom

“I most cherish Sofia. She is a living diety, a fierce heart and gentle soul who meets whomever she is interacting with every cell alert and alive. She inspires me every day to do yoga. I can’t wait to see her and the other women again.”Susan Black, MC Kean, PA

“It’s amazing what Sofia can do. It’s what she constantly does with opposites…she’s one of the few spiritual teachers who incorporates the downsides of life with the upsides, who doesn’t do inter-spiritual Kumba Ya, who combines strength with ethics, who doesn’t hide but is present and real. I need a booster shot.” Joanne Rubin, NY, NY

About Crestone

In Crestone, the stillness and vibrancy of nature becomes as obvious as the nature of our bodies. Crestone is situated in a very sacred valley at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains honored by the Native Americans indigenous to this area. It is home to many spiritual centers, and is a very powerful place for healing, transformation & regeneration.

Crestone Mountain Zen Center is located at 8400 feet in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado. Surrounded by 240 acres of Piñon Pine and Juniper forest, the campus is formed by the Main House with resident bedrooms, kitchen, community space, greenhouse and a vegetable garden, the Zendo (meditation hall), a Japanese style tea house, a Guest House, a workshop with a former pottery studio that was converted into a dormitory, a number of small cabins and the Lindisfarne Dome.

At 8,400 feet, the Main House and its vegetable and flower gardens look out over the San Luis Valley, an ancient dry lake bed. From the monastery you can see 50 miles across to the San Juan Mountains in the west and about 80 miles each direction, north and south.

Ten miles below in the valley to the south you can see the Dunefield of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, the tallest sand dunes in North America. Beyond that lies Mount Blanca, 14,345 feet high, one of the sacred world mountains of the pre-historic Anasazi and present-day Native Americans in the Southwest.

Behind the campus the land rises steeply into the mountains bordering Rio Grande National Forest land. Along the north border of our campus you can walk up Spanish Creek into a verdant aspen and spruce covered canyon; to the east, a Chinese-scroll-looking rocky peak called Dragon’s Rock dominates the view.

Behind and above the whole property, lifting into another world of weather and spirit, are the impressive fourteen thousand foot mountains: Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle, Kit Carson, Challenger, and Columbia Point. Many hiking trails are available in the area.
